More than 16 lakh Indians renounced their Indian citizenship since 2011 including 2,25,620 last year, according to data provided by the Ministry of External Affairs in Rajya Sabha.

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar presented the details while replying to a question.

He said the number of Indians who renounced their Indian citizenship in 2015 was 1,31,489, while 1,41,603 people gave it up in 2016 and 1,33,049 in 2017.

In 2018, the number was 1,34,561, while 1,44,017 Indians renounced their citizenship in 2019, 85,256 in 2020 and 1,63,370 in 2021.

The number in 2022 was 2,25,620, according to the minister.

For reference purposes, Jaishankar said the data for 2011 was 1,22,819 while it was 1,20,923 in 2012, 1,31,405 in 2013 and 1,29,328 in 2014.

The total number of Indians who gave up Indian citizenship since 2011 comes to 16,63,440.

President Volodymyr Zelenskyy asked his Western allies for more weapons and said "a Ukraine that is winning" its war with Russia should become a member of the European Union, arguing the bloc won't be complete without it.

State-owned Indian Overseas Bank (IOB) on  Feb 9 reported a 22% growth in its net profit at Rs 555 crore in the third quarter of financial year 2022-23 due to an increase in interest income and improved asset quality.The Chennai-based bank had posted a net profit of Rs 454 crore in the same quarter a year ago.

Crew shortage is impacting the operations of Air India, with some flights to the US and Canada either getting cancelled or facing inordinate delays.

Tata group-owned Air India, which is the only air operator flying on ultra-long haul routes, had faced problems last year also due to the shortage of crew members.

An ultra-long haul flight's duration is more than 16 hours.

In the last 5-6 days, the airline has cancelled three flights to San Francisco in the US and one flight to Vancouver in Canada.

Also, some of the flights on these routes are facing a delay of 10-12 hours.

In the last two months, Air India has inducted two leased wide-body Boeing 777 planes as part of its fleet augmentation plans.

The airline has also announced inducting a total of 11 such planes in the fleet over a period of time in addition to dry leasing 25 Airbus A320 family planes.

The committee was formed to enquire allegations of sexual misconduct, harassment, financial irregularities and administrative lapses levelled against Singh by prominent grapplers last month. The wrestlers had staged a three-day protest at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi from January 18 to 20 to raise their voice against the WFI chief following which the ministry formed the committee. It was directed to submit its report within four weeks.
